Grant Ellis Russell

Chicago, IL 60613 · Resume · grant.ellis.russell@gmail.com

I am a software engineer with experience building full-stack projects using React, Redux, Javascript, Python, PostgreSQL, HTML and CSS. I am drawn to coding because it is a form of reading and writing, it is language, it has culture, and there are trees! There is no better feeling than the euphoria that comes after long days of building, debugging, and then finally launching a viable project.

Projects

West Buena

JavaScript | Python | React | Redux | SQLAlchemy | HTML | CSS | Docker

West Buena is a full stack application inspired by West Elm. On this site a user can shop for garden-related products (I love to garden). The focus for this project is user experience and aesthetic, which I achieved through state management and conditional CSS rendering.

Interests

Apart from being a web developer, I am also a certified advanced master gardener. When I am not in front of my computer, I am walking along city streets or in the woods...admiring, identifying, and collecting the plant life around me. In many ways I approach plant keys and botany with the same analytical and curious mindset that I have when approaching code. It is all around us and there is order and wonder in it all.

I am also a creative homemaker, a caring dog parent, an occasional writer, and a pretty good vegan chef.
